What’s your dog’s favourite toy?

Just Dogs Live Nerf GunWHAT’S your dog’s favourite toy – a squeaky pork chop, a sturdy cone to hide treats in or a stuffed cuddly rabbit?

Or maybe it this … the Nerf Dog Tennis Ball Blaster – available at many outlets, either in store or online.

We asked a couple of independent reviewers to try it out with their own pets and tell us what thought .. here’s what they had to say.

Good points:

  • It’s hands free pick up – especially useful when the ball is soaked through with dog slobber.
  • It’s nice and colourful and easy to use.
  • Your dog won’t chew through it like tit could do with a regular thrower.
  • It’s a good talking point when you’re in the park with other dog walkers.
  • It will probably attract other dogs to come over if they hear/see the ball being thrown so could be good for socialising you dog.
  • Again – fun for all family as kids would love it so it could turn a boring dog walk into a fun afternoon in the park.
  • It’s generally safe to use although kids should be supervised.
  • It’s a decent size but not very heavy.
  • There’s a ball holder for a spare ball.
  • It works with regular tennis balls.

Not so good points:

  • The plastic feels quite cheap.
  • It’s bulky and awkward to carry (especially if you have two dogs on a lead and have to carry it under your arm!)
  • It’s quite loud, so if your dog is timid, it might scare him at the outset.
  • It doesn’t launch as far as regular thrower so if you have a dog that is quick and has lots of energy, you might be there for a while.

So in general it’s a good novelty toy – ideal for family fun but don’t expect it to be rocket powered! Our thanks to Kate and dogs Marley and Daisy, and Dawn and family – including Crash – for taking part.
